“Seychelles: Soul of the Ocean” is the new documentary series that reveals the essence of the African archipelago through the eyes of those who live the everyday life of the islands and help shape their identity day by day

Produced in collaboration with Tourism Seychelles, the documentary offers a heartfelt immersion into the culture, history, and nature of the destination, with an intimate approach guided by the locals themselves — guides, fishermen, artisans, musicians, scientists, and shopkeepers. The narrative explores themes such as sustainability, ancestry, belonging, and identity, highlighting the deep connection between the Seychellois people and the Indian Ocean.

Throughout the series, viewers are invited to discover a territory shaped by the forces of nature and a legacy of cultural encounters. These are stories told by those who are building the present of the archipelago while keeping its collective memory alive. The series highlights environmental conservation initiatives—such as marine spatial planning—Creole cultural expressions, and the rich cuisine that reflects the flavors of historical miscegenation.

Ep 01 – Between the Sky and the Sea

In this episode, time is guided by the sunlight, the sound of wind through the leaves, and the rhythm of the tides. Life unfolds surrounded by a beauty that one learns to respect from an early age: beaches sculpted over centuries, rocks that resemble works of art, and forests that shelter species found nowhere else on Earth, such as the coco de mer and the giant tortoises. But the effects of climate change are also felt — the sea encroaches, corals suffer, and the weather grows harsher. Nature demands care, and a way of life rooted in stewardship begins to emerge. In this spirit, conservation initiatives flourish, such as marine spatial planning, which positions Seychelles as a global reference in environmental protection.

Ep 02 – Rhythm, Roots, and Resilience

Seychellois culture comes to life in hand-carved wood, earrings made from seeds, and backyards where fruits, spices, and medicinal plants grow. It pulses in the drums of moutya, a musical genre created by enslaved people during colonial nights, now recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Each beat carries a story, a coded message, a form of resistance. The Creole language, born from the blend of peoples who arrived in Seychelles, remains alive in songs, market conversations, and family recipes. Preserving culture goes beyond keeping traditions — it means keeping ancestry alive through time.

Ep 03 – Flavors of Memory

The history of Seychelles begins without inhabitants and transforms with the arrival of the French, British, and Africans. From the encounters—whether forced or voluntary—between these peoples, a culture emerges, built from a fusion of languages, practices, rituals, and flavors. The legacy of slavery still echoes in the ruins of old plantations and in the humble homes that have withstood the passage of time. In Creole cuisine, almost everything comes from the land or the sea: fresh fish, chicken curry with coconut milk, pumpkin chutneys, spiced rice, and chili used just right. Each dish carries a memory; each aroma tells a story of origin. In Seychelles, eating is also an act of belonging — a way to remember those who came before and to affirm who one is today.
